The Black History Film Festival returns to Washington DC each year — screening at historic Black-owned and Black-programmed venues along U Street and the surrounding neighborhoods.
The Black History Film Festival programs its Washington DC festival in collaboration with the district’s longstanding Black arts community. Recent festivals have been hosted at the historic Lincoln Theatre on U Street and the Alamo Cinema Drafthouse, a partnership that began with Mayor Muriel Bowser’s team in 2016.
DC programming spans narrative and documentary work, filmmaker conversations, and community screenings that speak to the capital’s civic and cultural history.
